About Us

EQL is an awarding body recognised and regulated by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, SQA Accreditation in Scotland, Qualifications Wales (QW) and the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

We work in partnership with a variety of organisations, such as The British Horse Society, the British Equestrian Federation and its member bodies.

  • We develop and award industry-recognised, regulated qualifications including Scottish Vocational qualifications, Work Based Diplomas, Equestrian Tourism and Equestrian Coaching qualifications
  • We recognise educational provision within the equine industry that, while not on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), is still relevant and of good quality to meet our endorsement standards.

Our regulated qualifications are delivered by EQL Approved Centres within the UK and Northern Ireland. Qualifications can be taken at more than 500 Assessment Venues, both nationally and internationally.

We offer over 40 qualifications falling within different Award Frameworks:

All qualifications are developed with the governing body or industry experts, and we recognise a wide range of entry pathways into our qualifications. Our qualifications are industry-recognised and contribute to horse management and care, riding and coaching in equestrian sport. Some of our qualifications contribute to the Apprenticeship Framework.

EQL Quality Endorsed Education provides an independent Quality Endorsement for education and courses that are offered to learners outside of the regulated qualification market, providing the freedom for the development of courses that meet the needs of customers. The Quality Endorsement process evaluates and recognises high-quality education, enabling providers to demonstrate to their learners their commitment to the quality of courses. Learners can then start to differentiate between courses with a quality endorsement and those without.
